AN ELECTORAL SEASON
Provincial elections on October 2nd , municipal and school boards elections on November 10th : Autumn 2003 will be an electoral season in Ontario. The mission of the Association of French Speaking Jurists of Ontario (AJEFO), founded in 1980, is the promotion of access to justice in both official languages of the Courts of Ontario. AJEFO is also very interested in the exercise of democratic rights. According to the President of AJEFO, lawyer Josée Forest Niesing, of Sudbury, “We need to encourage taxpayers to seek information and exercise their citizen duties diligently by voting in the upcoming elections”. We intend to use this electoral period to conduct an information campaign by way of news releases, postings on our website and on website http://accesjustice.ca and articles in our monthly information bulletin regarding linguistics rights and related issues that are dear to our mandate. Furthermore, this information campaign aims to encourage taxpayers to inform themselves and to cast informed votes in the upcoming provincial, municipal and school board elections.
As a non partisan organization, we will not support nor oppose candidates. AJEFO congratulates those who have decided to offer to serve their community and wish them the best of luck. We hope our information campaign will contribute to a higher participation in the upcoming elections. AJEFO reminds each voter that they should seek the information they need to cast an enlightened vote, as each vote counts.
